What is Medicare Supplement Insurance?

Medicare Supplement Insurance is a health insurance policy that helps pay for the healthcare costs that your Original Medicare plan does not cover. These policies are sold by private insurance companies to help pay for out-of-pocket Medicare costs.

Who is eligible?

You must be enrolled in Original Medicare (Parts A & B), and must not be a recipient of Medicaid. Medicare Supplement Plans are also not compatible with Medicare Advantage plans. You must be disenrolled from any Medicare Advantage plan prior to starting a Medicare Supplement Insurance Plan.

What kind of Medicare Supplement Insurance plans are there?

In order to be designated as a Medicare Supplement Insurance plan or “Medigap” insurance plan, each company must follow state and federal laws designed to help make the buying process easier for the consumer. All Medigap policies are identified by the letters A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M and N (these letters are NOT related to Medicare Parts A, B, C, & D).

How much does it cost?
